Clark Atlanta University, incorporated in 1988, is a private, urban, coeducational, predominately African American institution of undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. Clark Atlanta has inherited the historical missions and achievements of its parent institutions, Atlanta University, founded in 1865, and Clark College, founded in 1869.
As one of only two private, comprehensive, historically black universities in the nation that offers degrees from the Bachelor's to the doctorate, CAU enrolls approximately 4,026 undergraduate and 1,178 full-time and part-time graduate students from 40 states and 50 countries. The University is one of six institutions that make up the Atlanta University Center, the largest consortium of historically black educational institutions in the country.
Members of the faculty are known for their warm and dedicated spirits. They provide the quality of instruction necessary to ensure that their students become productive, creative, and socially responsible citizens.
The family spirit at CAU is enhanced by the many traditions that are celebrated each year on campus, including the induction services for freshmen, the United Negro College Fund Drive, Homecoming, Consolidation Day, and the Spring Arts Festival. There are more than 60 chartered student organizations, special interest clubs, and academic honor societies on campus.
The athletic program at Clark Atlanta University receives the support of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The University is an NCAA Division II school and is a charter member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
