For 16 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Mercer among the southern region's leading universities for quality and value. As the only independent university of its size to offer programs in liberal arts, business, engineering, education, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, law, and theology, Mercer offers more than 20 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs in more than 60 major areas of study.
The main campus is conveniently located in Macon, a metro area of 350,000 residents that serves as the educational, medical, cultural, and commercial hub of central Georgia. More than 7,300 students are enrolled in Mercer's 11 schools and colleges, with approximately 2,800 graduates attending classes on the Macon campus. Seven of the University's colleges and schools are located in Macon: the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Engineering, the Tift College of Education, the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, the Townsend School of Music, the Walter F. George School of Law, and the School of Medicine. Mercer's Atlanta campus is home to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology, and Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, along with programs of the Tift College of Education, Stetson School of Business and Economics, and the School of Engineering. The University also has the College of Continued and Professional Studies and three regional centers located in the metropolitan Atlanta and central Georgia areas offering degree tracks for non-traditional, adult students.
Students benefit from Mercer's welcoming atmosphere, small class sizes, and learning experiences guided by a caring faculty, not the teaching assistants found at many universities. A superb faculty -- whose credentials represent some of the world's greatest academic institutions -- is distinguished for both teaching and research activities. More than 90 percent hold doctorates or the highest attainable degree in their respective fields.
Mercer's enviable reputation is built on its solid academic programs, outstanding faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities. Yet, tradition plays a key role in creating its unique identity as an institution committed to Judeo-Christian principles, as well as the tenets of religious and intellectual freedom.
