Successful Private colleges and universities provide an educational experience that is unmatched by many public institutions. The differences include smaller classes, more individual attention, professors with a keen awareness of their students' personal interests, a close-knit campus community, and student involvement in university life. These differences in quality have a strong impact on students. Expectations are higher -- students are expected to establish a firm background in the liberal arts, so that they develop an ideology that spans multiple disciplines. They participate in activities within and outside of the classroom. They are active rather than passive. They process rather than absorb. The results tell the story. Students emerge from the college experience with a firm belief that they can make an impact on the world through their thoughts and their actions. They are charged with an energy to serve, act and lead. Their energy is fueled by the knowledge they've gained and the conviction of their personal goals. Employers appreciate the critical thinking and problem solving skills that are the result of an independent college education. Privately educated students are well-rounded individuals capable of thinking and acting on their own and functioning in numerous roles. Years later, these graduates look back on their college experience, and credit much of their success to the time they spent at their alma mater. |
